Philanthropy
Full Plates. Full Hearts. Full Minds.
"To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world's work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied." The Alpha Gamma Delta purpose highlights the value we place on philanthropy and community service. While our sisters are involved in a diverse array of service organizations, Alpha Gam has chosen a more specific focus: fighting hunger.

Alpha Gam sister Margaret Toy pioneered the first Meals on Wheels, and today, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation proudly partners with both Meals on Wheels and Feeding America to fight food insecurity. The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation also provides scholarship and assistance to sisters in need across the U.S. and Canada. Gamma Iota puts on campus-wide fundraising events like “Pasta Jam” and a “How Sweet It Is” dessert bar. Our ticket sales and fundraising support our chapter’s title of Jewel Status, an International award we have held for nineteen years!
Locally, you can find Gamma Iota sisters participating in an annual Week of Service, making sandwiches for the local community fridge, packing food for schoolchildren at Backpack Buddies, and writing cards to bring some cheer to meal recipients. This is especially important to the Macon-Bibb community, where food insecurity rates are high. 21.8% of Bibb county experiences food insecurity, with the percentage of children being even higher at 25%. We love giving back to the community that has given us so much!
